If you have a really important goal in mind, one of the hardest things to learn is that you have to stop going to the hardware store for milk.
Of course, nobody goes to the hardware store for milk – they don’t even sell milk, after all – but it’s common that we do look for answers to our problems in the wrong places.
You want to lose weight so you embark on the diet du jour. Again. Or you try to minimise the amount you eat while your family enjoys all their regular foods. Again. Perhaps you start an exercise regime. Again.
There’s nothing wrong with any of these approaches, of course, but repeating the same mistakes over and over while expecting a different response is like expecting Bunnings to suddenly stock milk. It’s not going to happen.
The problem is that you’ve been trying things that don’t answer the problem you’re trying so hard to solve. It’s not your fault, and it’s not the fault of the solution. It’s just that the two of you are not a complementary fit. This mismatch is what causes so much pain and frustration, and leads to people – perhaps you? – giving up.
Perhaps it’s time to accept that you’ve been turning toward sources that simply can’t provide what you want and need.
To achieve any major goal in life, it’s important to get your milk from a store that stocks milk.
If losing weight is a goal for you, finding the right eating plan, with the right support, the right exercise, and the right mindset is what’s going to make your goal come to fruition. These all need to happen at once.
Losing weight is not about what the scales tell you. Well, it is a little bit but that’s only part of the problem. Do you want to lose weight, celebrate, and then regain the weight you lost? Probably not. Does the idea appeal of getting really fit only to lose your fitness? Unlikely. Does feeling ready and willing to do what’s needed, to then fall in a slump sound like a strategy? Doubtful.
In terms of weight loss, the milk won’t be found in a magazine, the internet, or in a pair of running shoes. Anything short-term won’t work, nor will tackling the problem with just one solution. The dairy is somewhere else.
A long-term solution requires a long-term approach. A lifestyle change, if you like. Healthy Inspirations members stopped looking for milk at the hardware store. Instead, they’re now shopping at the right place. Weight loss success is found through the combination of flexible nutrition plans, one-on-one support and coaching, and time-efficient exercise.
