2026 Update:
Lost a whopping 17.97% of her body weight & 12.8kgs
I’d always maintained a fairly steady weight for most of my adult life until suddenly in my 40s the kilos started to creep on. One day I got on the scales and found that I was more than where I wanted to be. I remember standing in front of the wardrobe and realising that I had nothing that fitted me properly and that I didn’t feel good in any of my clothes. That was my tipping point. I decided I needed help to do something about it.
Initially I was reluctant to sign up for a year thinking “I’ll never stick to it” and here I am 6 years later in a good routine, working out at Healthies 3 times a week which I really enjoy. I find the maintenance program very easy to follow – I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything, and the bottom line is that I feel good and want to keep that feeling.
When I think about where I was before starting, the things that really stand out are that I feel stronger and more energetic than when I started even though I am 6 years older! I also feel more positive about life in general, in short, I’m just happier. I’m now entering the next phase of my life (my 60s) feeling good about myself and confident that I will make the most of whatever comes next.
From time to time my weight does creep over my buffer but I find that I am able to get back on track fairly easily. I just go back to basics for a couple of weeks and that generally works. Regular nutrition check-ins with the Healthies coaches help stop the weight ballooning and they are wonderful with advice and tips if I’m struggling. The difference is this really works. Before joining Healthies I had tried lots of different diets and had several gym memberships but got bored or disillusioned with them all. With Healthies I felt better very quickly with a simple change in diet and practical real-world advice from the coaches.
For those looking at getting started I would say, if you are determined and stick to it this program will work. And it’s not difficult, it’s real food (I have never been hungry) and you will feel so much better. I really enjoy coming into the centre as it is a welcoming and happy place. The community and the camaraderie with the other women who attend is a big part of what makes Healthies so special. Go in and talk to one of the coaches – it will change your life for the better and you won’t regret it.
Most of all I’m proud of the fact that I’ve committed to something that was all about me and not compromising my health and happiness.
