Lost 7.9kgs and 30cms

For most part of my childhood and teenage years I have had a lot of troubles with being overweight for my age. I lacked confidence and self-esteem because I could not do a lot of the activities children my age were doing. The lack of confidence and self-esteem began to affect my adult life as I was always insecure about the way I looked and felt.

Despite my several attempts at going to different gyms or eating, what I thought was, healthy foods, I still struggled to lose weight the healthy way, but that was until I discovered Healthy Inspirations 5 months ago. At first, I was scared and unsure if it was something I could commit to. I always found comfort in food and the thought of changing the way I ate and what I ate was very scary. I decided to give it a shot and set myself up for small goals at a time. Within the first week I was able to lose nearly 3kgs. I surprised myself!

I then realized how much more I could achieve. 5 months on I have lost more weight, my body is looking more toned and my clothes are fitting me better, I never thought I would ever be a size 10. More importantly I am consciously making healthier choices when it comes to food. I have found a new fond love for exercising and getting stronger. Anyone who knows me well will tell you how much I always complained about my arms being flabby and unattractive, now I love showing it off. I have not only found confidence in myself but I have also learnt to love myself and to be proud of what and how much I have achieved in such a small period of time. Since choosing this new lifestyle, I have been happier with my life and myself. It’s all the little positive changes I see of myself and in myself that inspires me and drives me to push myself everyday to keep myself motivated.

However, I have had my fair share of ups and downs during the 5 months. Working in childcare can sometimes be physically and mentally exhausting which challenged my healthy eating choices many times.

There were days when I felt like I just had to get that cheeseburger meal or eat that box of chocolates for comfort but those choices didn’t translate so well on the scales.

Also, having shifts that could change every week, I struggled with having a consistent routine and many a time missed going to the gym but I found that simply making healthier food choices was all that I needed to do even if I was not able to make it to the gym; like my Health Coach Ellissa-Mae always says to me “exercise is just bonus”.

Since joining Healthy Inspirations, I feel like a whole new person. I never thought I would find a passion in wanting to get fit and healthy. Unlike before, I now enjoy exercising, trying new workouts and seeing how much I can push myself. I have never felt this great about myself and I cannot wait to see more positive results in the long run. This is only the beginning of a new chapter of my life.

My top 3 inspiration tips would be:

  1. Inspire yourself by achieving one goal at a time: Set small realistic goals for yourself, you are more likely to achieve smaller goals quicker than the bigger picture.
  2. Watch closely as your progress: Take photos of yourself, every month, every week or even every day and see how you transform into this new person.
  3. Don’t beat yourself up: You’re going to have some bad days or weeks and that’s okay. Once you’ve overcome that phase, pick yourself up, clear your mind and start again.

Bonus tip:

If you’re someone like me who really struggles with cooking master one meal of the day at a time. Once you’re confident with your breakfast or lunches or whichever meal you chose to master first, move on the next meal. After you’ve mastered all the three meals for the day, it gets a lot easier to meal prep for the week.
