Lost 24.3kgs and 27.21% of her body weight
I had lost 44kg many years ago, but over the last 10 years I gradually gained over 20kg due to stress of family life. I dealt with this by comfort eating with bags of potato chips, chocolates and takeaway foods.
I was falling back into bad habits and not wanting to go out or be seen. Clothes were not fitting, and I did not want to buy new ones because I had gained weight, and nothing looked good on anymore.
At this stage I was still walking every day, but it was getting harder, and I was also experiencing pains in my chest and down my arms. At first, I ignored this, thinking it would just go away. I finally went to the doctors who referred me to a cardiologist who diagnosed me with a narrowing of one of my arteries. This was a wakeup call.
Then my daughter sent me an old photo of the two of us, it was one of us in my slimmer days. I commented saying “I wish I was that size again” and she replied, “You will Mum”, and with those words I booked another appointment to see the GP and asked for the magical slimming tablet, or injection. The doctor wrote me the script but said, most of my patients lose the weight on this, however they do not maintain it, what you need is support and guidance and that she had heard about Healthy Inspirations. I went to my car and made the phone call to Healthy Inspirations and made a time to pop in. After my consultation I went off to think about it and speak to my daughter who said you never do anything for yourself so go for it!
So, I went back, signed up and never looked back. I was surprised how I was never hungry on the program. The food and snacks are amazing. I do enjoy cooking, and my freezer is always full of a variety of meals. My husband enjoys the meals and when I have family over, they enjoy them too. When I cook for the family, I still portion out the meals and if they want seconds they just take more.
I have not had any struggles on the program, even eating out with friends I try to make good choices. If there was a week that I had gained a little, the staff at Healthies were always incredibly supportive and got me back on track. I am feeling great now and not embarrassed to go out and be seen.
My top three tips would be:
- Be organised, have your meals prepared in your freezer.
- Do not be in a hurry to lose the weight, the program works but takes time. There is no quick fix. Education is key.
- For me I do not enjoy workouts, but I do enjoy walking, and it is something I can stick to. So, this is the movement I chose for myself.
