Lost 7.8kgs and 10.90% body weight
From early adulthood, I have been aware of the importance of healthy eating, have had a very strong work ethic, and great love for new clothes! In general terms this served me very well for many, many years!
However, post-retirement has been more problematic. Following my husband’s illness and passing, and the difficult times that followed, health and exercise were not high on my agenda, and my favourite foods and drinks were the most enticing of all. Ice cream is a particular favourite!
This period in my life was a time of great change as we had been married for nearly 54 years. I needed to learn to live alone (with my dog, Hettie), and all household tasks became mine, including cooking, which my husband had done for many years. Not a particularly competent cook, cooking for one had no appeal at all! This all resulted in my weight slowly increasing, and exercise time decreasing.
I also became increasingly concerned about my health and realised that it was becoming too easy to withdraw from opportunities for new experiences. I felt less confident in who I was, and over-loaded and challenged with home maintenance tasks.
Aware that I needed to make some changes to my life, but wary of doing this on my own, my daughter, Julie, encouraged me to accompany her and my granddaughter, Emma, to Healthy Inspirations Prospect; to lose weight, to exercise more, and to involve myself in new endeavours. How proud I am of these two special women!
Once I had made the decision, the support and encouragement from the coaches, the food guidelines, as well as recipes for appropriate meals, and changes to my way of life became routine and I even began to do some cooking. I found the regular weekly nutrition check-in encouraging and enjoyable.
A bonus was that I discovered the wonder of being able to order the next week’s meals at Healthy Inspirations, a significant positive in my life!
I am very comfortable ‘living the new lifestyle’ and thrilled with my loss of weight and increased fitness! I am now not only eating better but liking it! I feel younger and hope I look younger…turning 80 is something of a challenge!
My next step is to go more often to do a circuit, with the goal that a class might be the next big step after that!
I feel healthier, less stressed, more confident again, and love my new clothes. I am happy to be photographed and look forward to cooler weather when I can wear one of my favourite suits!
