Lost 17.8kgs and 21.24% body weight
I was feeling incredibly unhealthy and uncomfortable in my own body. I had tried every diet under the sun (nothing worked) and simple everyday things like getting in and out of the car felt hard, my breathing was affected, and I found myself withdrawing socially and hiding from the world. I had really lost my way, and over the years had joined Healthies a number of times but just couldn’t stick to it as my life is anything but structured – my husband’s work hours constantly change, I have a son on the spectrum, and a dance-mad daughter with a very full schedule.
I re-joined Healthies last year as I wanted to get VIBRANT and feel light in myself not just weight wise but mentally too. Although my family life and structure are still the same, I am learning to manage it better and trying to make my goals equally as important as my family’s.
Fashion is my fun in life, it is an outlet to a daily life full of challenges, and before I lost the weight, I was just wearing black clothes and not the clothes I loved. I wanted to look good in my clothes again and just to get back to myself. Now I can wear absolutely anything from my wardrobe and wear matching pjs with my daughter!
What works for me is that I stick to my favourite foods and simply put them on repeat. I don’t over complicate the process, and prioritise being consistent with my food preparation. I always have on hand (or in the fridge) my Healthies protein shakes, veggies like fennel and cherry tomatoes, spare protein dinners in the freezer for busy nights, eggs on hand as they are so convenient and easy to put left over veggies in to make a frittata. Healthy fats like feta and parmesan go a long way flavour wise plus I keep sugar free zooper doopers for hot days in the freezer.
There have been lots of stuff ups along the way, and I now just make sure the next meal, or snack is on plan with no guilt, and I try to include some extra little 15-minute walks whenever I can. Mentally for me I need to get outdoors each day, and I also try to manage a personal training session each week at Healthies to focus on my strength.
I choose to be distracted and keep out of the kitchen by doing puzzles at night, window shopping, gardening, planning events and things like our family celebrations are really spectacular now as I spend time organising these.
The team at Healthies have supported me so well. They encourage me to show up every week and prioritising this has been a game changer – I really feel the love and support! It has such a lovely community vibe and over the years I have continued to return as they never gave up on me even when I felt I had given up on myself at times. I’ve always been welcomed with open arms, and for that I am so grateful.
