Lost 14.3kg in Beat the Winter Blues 12 week Transformation
I saw two photos of myself that were a bit of a reality check and made me think I really needed to do something about my increasing weight. Aside from those two photos I had started snoring and felt tired all the time. As a busy Mum of three young boys and a preschool teacher I thought this was normal. A friend had recently joined HI with great results so I thought I’d give it a try too.
My Mum passed away from cancer when I was 20 years old. She was only 45. Although her cancer wasn’t preventable as I get closer to her age (I’m 42 now) I’m acutely aware of how important it is to be as fit and healthy as possible. After 15 weeks with HI I have lost 22 kilos. I am fitter, lighter and happier. My resting heart rate has reduced by 8bpm, my BMI and body fat percentage has reduced and I no longer snore.
I didn’t really have any concerns about starting the program apart from the fact that getting on the scales every week might be a bit daunting. Although, having said that, I also knew that this would be a significant contributing factor for success and would keep me accountable.
I have been doing Pilates for a few years so I felt strong and flexible but was nervous about the cardio classes. I felt really unfit and over weight and wasn’t sure I could run or jump around.
I feel fitter, more active and am moving a lot more and a lot easier. I notice this in day to day life, at work, playing with my boys, walking the dog. Everything is easier. I am down two dress sizes and feel more confident and happy in myself. I no longer have hunger fluctuations and have high energy levels through the day.
The weekly coaching was a big contributing factor to my success. Being able to discuss and plan for any challenging upcoming events was helpful. At the weekly coaching sessions I always felt supported and encouraged to stick to the plan and keep achieving results.
The best thing about HI is that it is not just a gym or health/weight loss centre but a combination of both. With a super friendly, supportive community. The classes are great but the food guidelines are invaluable. It doesn’t matter how much you exercise if you aren’t getting your food right.
My 3 top tips:
- Stick to the food plan and don’t think of it as a diet but a lifestyle change.
- Make time for exercise and movement in your weekly schedule. Try and get in to a regular routine.
- Stick to the program and think of the long term health benefits. Especially on those weeks where you may have gained weight or had minimal results. It’s not only about weight lost it’s about being a healthier and happier version of yourself!
