The cold weather has arrived and attention turns to heating, woolly jumpers, warm blankets, and hibernating at home. It’s a magic time of year and all sounds lovely until the first hint of spring, when panic sets in.

“Why did I spend winter eating comfort food and doing nothing?”

Comfort food doesn’t have to sabotage results. Warming foods like soups and stews fit most people’s definition of comfort food: they warm the body and the soul.

When you think about soups and stews, they’re pretty basic: meat, vegetables, some liquid, and some herbs and spices. Taken alone, each ingredient is ordinary. Put together, where the flavours mingle and intensify, is where the magic happens.

Magic? For sure. Warming, filling, comforting, nutritious food that perfectly fits a weight loss program – that’s magic. (Check out our Recipes page for your copy of our Simply Soups and Stews recipe book.)

In keeping with this positive mindset about the cold months, let’s think about exercise. There is no reason not to layer up for a morning walk. Use thermals if necessary, but most will get away with some leggings and track pants, a long-sleeve T-shirt, thin wool jumper, and a thicker over-jumper, with or without a coat. Of course, a beanie, scarf and gloves make everything a bit more comfortable. Now get out there and walk!

Ok, so that’s not always the best option. Why not exercise indoors? Healthy Inspirations is the perfect solution, with resistance exercise and classes to keep you warm, comfortable and motivated right through the winter months. In fact, the hardest part is getting off the couch or out of bed to go to the centre. After that, it’s easy.
