We all know that to lose weight we just need to “eat less and exercise more”, but what if this simplistic approach is wrong? At least wrong for a large percentage of Aussies and Kiwis who are struggling with their weight.
What if our beliefs about what constitutes a “healthy diet” are wrong – or at least wrong in that one set of diet rules might not apply to every body – or my body or your body.
What if having excess weight is not “the problem” but merely a symptom of a greater problem – our individual genetic inability to cope with the foods and drinks we’re consuming. If you believe you have a “healthy diet” but at the same time you are carrying excess weight, then your “healthy diet” may not be ideal for you. It might be fine for your brother, sister, husband, friends, doctor and workmates… but not for you.
In a thought-provoking presentation this week on the prestigious online TED MED forum, medical doctor Dr Peter Attia used a great analogy “When we run into a coffee table and end up with a swelling sore shin, is the only course of action to treat the swelling (the symptom), or should we also move the coffee table (the cause) out of the way?”
The presentation is worth watching and goes for just 18 minutes.
Now, if we’re wrong (or at little confused) about what causes diabetes (type 2) could we wrong (or a little confused) about what causes some people to put on weight but not others, and what’s the best way to lose weight?
So here are some questions for you:
Do you believe that losing weight is simply about “eating less and exercising more”? Yes / No
Do you believe that “One diet does suit everybody.” Yes / No
Have you discovered and are you sticking to the diet (way of eating) that helps your body achieve its ideal weight, health, energy and freedom from joint and gut pain? Yes / No
OK… Here’s the shameless plug.
Although thousands of our members have enjoyed huge success (over 130,000 kilos lost so far) sustained over many years, we have recently upgraded our programs to include the advanced Reset Program that’s based on the philosophy that “One diet does NOT suit every body”. The Reset Program is a guided week-by-week process to help each person discover the ideal eating plan that helps them optimise their weight, health, energy and minimisation of joint and gut pain.
Why not contact, or come back into your local Healthy Inspirations centre. They’ll show you how the program works.
Feel free to share this post and the enclosed video with your friends, family and workmates.
Be the example! Best wishes,
Jamie
